We want to extend a huge thank you to all members. As COVID continues be a part of our lives, you and your families continue to be vigilant in protecting our team and others in the classroom. We truly appreciate the effort and will continue our strict regimen of cleaning and sanitizing to ensure it is safe for all. Please remember you will be required to show proof of vaccination status and ID at the Bingo Hall when volunteering. Please remember if you are volunteering to assist for the Dynamyx Gym field trip you will be asked to show proof of your COVID vaccinations and your ID.

Once again, a big thank you to the learning team. We recognize that once again the school year is still not the same as before. You continue to go the extra mile to keep things safe for everyone. This is an extra load for all and we all appreciate what you do for our children.

The Teaching staff could use help with the classroom sanitizing at the end of each class. If you are able to assist, please sign up on the calendar on the Parent Board or email the school office. It will only take about 15 to 20 minutes to help sanitize the high touch surfaces and toys used. If you are volunteering, we will provide you with gloves.

Please bring in some non-perishable food items or cash donations to help support.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1638232138280{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]New Dismissal Procedures for the End of Class
Now that winter has arrived we will be making changes to our class dismissal procedures so you are not standing outside in the cold to wait for your child. We are going to try a texting method using the Class Dojo App. If the process seems to take too long we will look at other options.

Beginning on Monday, November 29th, we will begin using the Class Dojo App to dismiss the children to you. When you arrive in the parking lot and you have put your car in park, you will text Ms. Michell that you are here. Just send the word “Here”. Please do not text your arrival until you have actually parked your vehicle in the parking lot. We will dismiss the children in order of your arrival. As the children are ready, Ms. Michell will text you to let you know that your child is ready and you will come to the doors to sign out your child.

If you have not signed up for the Class Dojo App yet, please see Ms. Shannon for your login information, you can also email and we can send you the information for downloading the APP and setting up your login information. If you do not have the App on your phone or you have Grandparents picking up, please let them know to come up to the door as usual.

Thanks,

Michell Fung
Thank you to the Social Committee for all their hard work that contributed to a wonderful Halloween week. The children and teachers had a great time dressing up in costumes, and the children enjoyed all the Halloween activities. Thanks to all those families who contributed treats for the “treat bags”! I am sure the kids loved it.

I hope your child enjoyed the Music Theme as much as our staff did! It was great to see the children playing the different musical instruments we have in class and to learn the instrument names. The children seemed to enjoy the music projects and the musical instruments they made in class. They loved learning the Chicken Dance especially the fast part at the end.

The next few weeks of November are filled with Dinosaur exploration where the children will learn about the different dinosaurs and their names, which ones were plant-eaters (Herbivores), and which ones were meat-eaters (Carnivores).

The children had an amazing time at Gym Day. A huge thank you to all of the parents who helped to bring in the equipment from the shed, clean the equipment, tidy up between classes, set up the classroom, tidied up at the end and put the equipment back into the shed. All of the Staff at LCDS appreciate the extra help especially on a busy day like Gym Day, we can’t facilitate special event days without your assistance.

Please check out the weekly pictures and video posts on the ClassDojo App to see what the children are doing in the classroom. If you have not joined yet, please ask Ms. Shannon for a new ClassDojo code and don’t miss out on all of the fun. This is also a quick way to communicate between you and myself when needed.

We are teaching the children how to be good Community Helpers by asking our families to bring in food for the Food Bank and bags of empty clean bottles. The money raised from the bottles will be given to the Food Bank. The collection boxes can be found in front of the LCDS office beginning November 22nd. We would like the children to understand how lucky they are to have food, warm clothing, toys, etc., and to think about how other children might feel if they were very hungry and didn’t have food to eat. Did you know that approximately 40 percent of clients served by the Edmonton Food Bank are children under 18? More details on the Food Bank can be found on http://edmontonsfoodbank.com/about/[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1638294543524{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]TEACHERS REPORT CONTINUED

Our theme for the end of November to the beginning of December is “Winter Animals”. We’ll be reading stories about foxes, rabbits, penguins, polar bears, etc. to learn about how these animals survive in winter. The children will also be learning about hibernation and migration of animals during this time of the year.

*On Saturday, December 4th, 2021, in lieu of our LCDS Family Christmas
Party, we will be hosting a Drive-By Holiday Gift Giving from 10:00 am – 12:00
pm. The staff will be passing out gifts and hot chocolate to the LCDS children
and their siblings. See more information in the newsletter.

Tuesday, December 7th is our next Gym Day at our school. This will be an excellent opportunity to burn off some extra energy before the holidays begin! Please be sure to sign up and note the times posted on the parent information boards. Please dress the children in loose comfortable clothing and tie back long hair. Also, if the weather looks like it might be nice, we may go outside for sledding at the beginning of class. We will email to confirm if we are going outside for sledding. If we are going out, please dress your children in winter coats, snow pants, mittens/gloves and winter boots. All children will need a helmet to go sledding (bike helmet, hockey helmet, ski helmet). Please make sure the helmet is adjusted to fit over a thin toque or hat. Please check for the times on the parent board and any other important information.

We always look forward to celebrating the holidays together as a school community. For the week of December 13th – 17th the children will be experiencing holiday activities throughout the week.

Our classroom theme for the rest of December will focus on Winter Celebrations. Keep in mind that many other holidays are celebrated close to this time of the year! For Example, Hanukkah celebrations begin on November 28 till December 6th. Kwanza will be celebrated from December 26th through to January 1st. Ukrainian Christmas will be celebrated on January 7th. The children will also learn that not everyone celebrates these holidays and they may celebrate something similar or different to Christmas.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1638294682132{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]TEACHERS REPORT CONTINUED
Michell Fung

I will be leaving for my holiday break a little bit earlier than winter break schedule and will not be here on Dec. 17th. Ms. Rita will be in class that day. The last day of school before winter break is Friday, December 17th. The children and staff will dress up in pajamas and watch a holiday movie.

Regular Classes at L.C.D.S. will resume on Monday, January 4th, 2021. Our theme for January begins with Colors from January 3rd – 14th, 2021. There will be a color calendar in the January newsletter, please check the Calendar for the color of the day. Your child can dress in the color of the day and bring a photo of a toy or other object in the color of the day (if you don’t have a printer, you can send the photo ahead of the day and Ms. Shannon will print it out for you). The children will have fun learning all about colors.

Enjoy the new season of winter, we’re looking forward to the holidays[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”6135″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1635178806688{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]
