Wow! We can’t believe the Holidays are upon us!

Thank you to everyone who made it out to the Drive by Holiday Gift Giving! The staff
enjoyed seeing everyone and handing out the LCDS Christmas Gifts and some Hot
Chocolate.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 50/50 Draw and Silent Auction on December
10th! We appreciate everyone’s efforts in securing donations for the event and sharing the
links with your family and friends. We would like to especially thank our former LCDS Vice
President, James Salt in helping to solicit for donations as he brought in several items for
us to bid on. Congratulations to Layne Fossen, our 50/50 winner!

Thank you to our current Board Treasurer, Joe Salaysay, for organizing the silent auction
and the 50/50 draw and getting it set up online. Also, thank you to Summer Halabi and
Megan Waye our Fundraising Coordinators and Janelle Graw our Vice President, for doing all
of the leg work to put it all together. Many hands make light work and to put on an event
like this, there is a fair amount of work involved. From our members soliciting for
donations, our team tracking items and donors, photographing the items, writing item
descriptions, pricing the items, loading them to the site, monitoring the site, answering
redundant questions, storing the items, collecting payment and distributing the items to
buyers. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!!!

We really appreciate everyone’s hard work to help operate the school. By helping in any way
that you can, cleaning, working your Bingos, working extra bingos, participating in
fundraising, helping set up gym day and take down, bringing snack items, attending parent
meetings, project preparation work, etc. Everything you do no matter how big or small helps
to make sure the program operates smoothly. Thank you to all of our parents and friends!

We have some important decisions to make in the near future:

Bingo Events – Our Bingo license will be up for renewal and we need to decide whether we
want to continue working Bingo events for a source of income. Does Bingo still serve our
Value and Mission statements? Is it still beneficial to supply 14 members for 8 or 9
monthly events for $10000.00 – $15000.00? If we were to discontinue working Bingo
events for a source of income, what would we replace it with?[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1649194952320{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]

Message from the Board (Cont’d)

Ms. Shannon recently attended an information workshop regarding Corporate
Giving/Donations. This would require a committee each year to volunteer and work towards
securing annual donations from past members, community businesses, corporate sponsors,
etc. The links to the presentation and information is below if anyone is interested in
learning more about how we could replace the Bingo proceeds.

Casino – We received our Casino Dates, May 31st and June 1st. We will be sending out the
list of positions and time slots we will need to fill in the New Year. The funds we receive
from Casino revenue pays for our Teacher’s salary and our building rent for two years.

Vision Statement – We need to create a vision statement for LCDS, where would we like to
see the program in the future? We will be looking to create a committee to work on our
Vision. If you are interested in participating please speak with Ms. Shannon or a Board
Member. We would also like to involve past members who are interested.

50 Year Anniversary – LCDS is approaching its 50 Year Anniversary in September 2022.
We would like to plan an Anniversary event to mark this momentous occasion. We need to
create a committee to plan for this event. If you are interested in participating, please
speak with Ms. Shannon. We would also like to involve past members who are interested.

Planning for Staff Retirement – Our Executive Director, Shannon Music and our Financial
Manager, Carmen Briggs would like to retire in the next two years. We need to make some
decisions for these positions and begin looking at change management/updating the job
descriptions or the positions/policies/procedures, etc. If anyone is interested in being a
part of the decisions for the future of LCDS, please speak with Ms. Shannon or a Board
Member to assist in the decision making process. We would also like to involve past
members who are interested.

If your child is transitioning to Kindergarten in September, please
consider LCDS for your child. LCDS offers the same curriculum programming as the
Public and Catholic Boards set by the Alberta Government.

LCDS has the benefit of being able to offer your child a small class setting with lots of
individual teacher support and access to Speech & Language and OT support if needed.
If you are interested in having your child attend Kindergarten at LCDS,
please speak with Ms. Michell about our program. We will also be sending out some
information on the program in January.

We are beginning to plan for the 2022 – 2023 school year.
If you are planning to have your child return to LCDS for school in September,
please consider adding your name to a Board or Committee position for next year.
Some of our Board Members may stay on in their positions; other families will be moving on to
Kindergarten or Grade one with their local schools.

We cannot offer the wonderful program and special events without the extra support and
assistance of our members in these positions.

We have a lot of decisions to make in the next 2 years.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1649196434924{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]General Membership Meeting

Wednesday, January 18th, 2022, 6:00 PM

We would like to invite all of our members to the virtual General Membership Meeting in
January. This is one of three opportunities where we are able to meet as a group and
discuss matters which relate to the operations of the Society. Your suggestions and
feedback help our Parent Board members and Staff members make decisions for the
Society’s future.

We will be looking for your input into next year as we plan around COVID and to recover
from COVID deficits and future planning.

We look forward everyone joining us for the meeting.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1649196768828{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]Scholastic Book Orders

Thank you for donating food and recycled beverage containers to the Edmonton Food
Bank and helping to teach our children about helping their community.

We appreciate your participation!![/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1649197738329{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]Teacher’s Report Michell Fung

Thank you to all the families who contributed food and empty bottles for the Food
Bank. The children enjoyed learning how to be good community helpers.

The temperature in our classroom can fluctuate in the winter. Please dress your
child in layers, such as a long sleeve shirt and a hoodie or sweater so they can take
a layer off if they are too warm or put it on if they are chilly. This may help to
prevent illness too. It is a great idea to pack extra clothing and extra masks in
case they get wet or dirty. Please practice at home and remind your children to
sneeze or cough into their elbow. It also helps to talk about keeping their hands
out of their mouths, noses, etc.. Thank you for your cooperation!

We hope your child or children enjoyed the Gym days as much as we have. They
seem to have fun at the different Gym centres and they like playing the large
group games with their peers.

We hope your children enjoyed the Christmas Activity Week and I will see
everyone when I am back from my Holiday.

From all the staff and myself we wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy
Holidays! Have a Happy 2022 New Year!

Winter break is from December 18th to January 2nd – January 9th

We will see you back at school on Monday, January 3rd, 2022. January 10th.

Our first theme for January begins with Colors from Jan 3rd -14th January 10th – 21st .

The children will have a good time learning different colors. Please look at
the calendar for the color of the day in the newsletter. It would be great if your
child could dress in that color. Due to COVID the children will not be showing and
sharing with their home toys in the classroom. The children will bring a picture of
their home toy relating to the color of the day to school instead. If you have
printer issues please send the pictures ahead of time to the office through an
email and Ms. Shannon will print them out for the color day your child will be
attending.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1649197965374{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]Teacher’s Report Michell Fung (Cont’d)

Our next Gym day is Thursday, January 13th, 2022 will be postponed due to the
rise in COVID cases. Please dress your child in loose gym clothing and running
shoes. Tie back long hair. If the weather permits we will let you know in January if
we will be able to go sledding for part of the gym day, if the weather permits.

In Kindergarten/Junior Kindergarten the children will be starting their home
reading program in the middle of January. There will be more information to come.

We usually begin a library program for all children in February. We are still
discussing what that will look like. We will send out more information once we have
figured it out.

From Jan 17th – 28th 21st the children will learn about the weather. This will be
a wonderful opportunity to talk more about the different types of weather we
experience everyday.

In the first two weeks of February, we will learn about Friendship and
Valentine’s Day. We will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a class party on Monday
February 14th. a Valentine’s Day Week where we will have special activities for
Valentine’s Day all week. On Valentine’s Day we will have a regular class and the
children can wear red, pink, purple or white. More information will be posted on
the parent boards closer to the date.

On Thursday, February 17th, 2022, we have Clay Guys coming to the class. (TO
BE DETERMINED) The children will be making a special creation out of clay. More
information will be available on the parent boards.

There will be No School on Friday February 18th as the Teacher’s will be
attending a professional development conference. Monday February 21st there
will be No School for Family Day.

Have a wonderful Christmas Break![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”6252″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1649195686609{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]
