First and foremost, the board would like to extend their thank you and gratitude to the LCDS team. During these times, it is fantastic to know we have people working so hard to maintain a clean environment for our children. They are going above and beyond their contractual duties to do this. Please share your thanks with the team if you have the chance to talk with them before or during pick up of your children.

Thank you to all of the parents for continuing to follow the COVID protocols at school and keeping your children home when they are not well. You are truly going the extra mile to ensure there is no impact to our children.

I would like to thank everyone who was able to join us for our September General Meeting virtually. We would obviously love to see everyone face to face, but as COVID continues to hinder our normal operations we will continue with this mode of meeting until things change. We hope to see more of you on our next meeting!

We hope your children enjoyed the Welcome Bags given out in lieu of our Family Welcome Social. Who doesn’t love an autographed photo of Sammy?

Thank you to everyone who donated treats to the children’s Halloween treat bags! They are going to be so excited next week!

Due to COVID there has been an impact to some of the events that have been planned. Please see the notes below:
– The Halloween party will be the same as last year – week of fun activities to keep group numbers small and easier for the staff.
– We will continue with Gym Day to be held in the classroom this year with the time shortened. We are still concerned with the COVID numbers and using a shared space. Having Gym at the school saves the school money for rental space and the need for volunteers to transport equipment to the hall and back to the school. We will need parent volunteers to assist with bringing the equipment into the school from the shed and taking it back out to the shed. We will not be using a lot of equipment to minimize cleaning. Information will be shared in the newsletter and on the parent boards.
– Please make sure you have signed up for your Bingo Events or Classroom Cleaning date. If you are opting out of your commitments, please make sure we have your payment for the worker(s) in cash to the office. Please remember for Bingo events, you will need to show your vaccination status and ID.

We hope everyone will be able to attend the Dynamyx Gym field trip on Friday November 26th. Please see the Field Trip section and Ms. Michell’s report for more details.

– If you have any suggestions to replace our Christmas Party with other options such as a  drive by event at the school. Let us know what ideas you may have.

Our first fundraiser will be an online Silent Auction. Information was sent out to everyone on  Thursday October 21st. Check your email for your instructions. We want to have a successful  auction so we don’t need to run a bunch of smaller fundraisers throughout the year. Get out to the  local businesses or email businesses to secure some donations and bring them into the school.  The more we have, the more money we make!

We will also be running a Purdy’s Christmas Chocolate campaign. More information will be in  everyone’s mailboxes soon. Please share the information with your friends and family.

We will be supporting the Edmonton Food Bank again this year. Donations can be dropped off at  the school beginning the last week of November. Ms. Michell will be teaching the children about  being good community helpers by brining in a donation for the Edmonton Food Bank. If someone  is able to pick up two boxes for us, please let Ms. Shannon know.

We always appreciate suggestions or feedback on how we might be able to improve your  experience here at the school, please speak with our Board of Directors or send via email to the  LCDS Board of Directors, lcds@telus.net.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1634939056834{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]Reminders

  • Please be on time to pick up your child at the end of class. The teachers have a short  lunch hour and also need to clean between classes. LCDS has a $5/minute late fee  policy that will be charged if there is continual lateness occurring. Please call the school  office if you are going to be late so we can let your child know that you are on your way.
  • Please remember your snack day! Check which day you are scheduled to bring snack and  schedule it in your phone so you don’t forget.
  • Please leave your child’s outdoor shoes or boots on the rack at the entrance. As the  weather will soon change we do not want muddy or wet boots or shoes in the shoe  cubbies. Please leave your child’s indoor shoes at the school in their shoe cubby so you
  • Do not forget to bring them back to the school.

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1633640184858{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]Bingo Coordinator

We are still in need of a Bingo Coordinator. Your responsibility will entail receiving the scheduled list of volunteers from the school office 2 weeks prior to the scheduled event. You will send a reminder to the families scheduled. Assist in securing paid workers from the Paid workers list if needed. Show up on the morning of the scheduled Bingo event, make sure everyone has arrived, organize the volunteers, make sure everyone is aware of their jobs and once everyone has settled in you can depart (usually 1 ½ hours of time).

We have one volunteer secured but would like to have another person to make the job a little easier. Each of you would attend 4 Bingo events. Please see Shannon in the office if you can assist, we really do need to fill this position as we cannot participate in Bingo Events without a coordinator.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1633640351263{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]

Photo Day

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8th, 2021
Regular classes on this day will be cancelled.

Individual photos will be taken at the designated times below.
We do not arrange for a picture retake day as the photographer usually takes several poses for you to choose from.

The Morning Class Photos will begin @ 10:00 am
The Afternoon Class Photos will begin @ 10:45 am

We would like all children to attend, even if you will not be ordering a photo package.
We would like all of the children to be present on the class photo sheet.

If you would like to have your child’s individual photos taken, please sign your child’s name on the sign-up sheet located on the parent boards. Each sitting only takes a few minutes.

The photographer will take your child’s photo at the photo session, when the photos are ready for viewing we will send you a link to view your photos online. You can place your order and when they are ready they will be delivered to the school.

On photo day we will go in the order of arrival, so time yourselves accordingly so you are not waiting too long in line.

No money is required on Picture Day.

Please remember it is quite normal at this age for a child to “all of a sudden” be anxious about having their picture taken. We will try to encourage them to have their photo taken but if they do not want to have it taken and they are quite upset, we will take photos again at the end of the school year for graduation and we can try again.

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1633640370113{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]Photo Day Protocol

In keeping with the COVID-19 AHS protocols, we will not be having everyone gather in the foyer to wait for their photo to be taken. We will ask you to stagger your entry and we will take your child in order as you arrive. Please wear a mask and please sanitize your hands when you come in. Please sign into the register at the door. We will ask you to wait in line and stand the required 2 meters apart while waiting. We ask you to keep your children with you at all times. You may choose to wait in your car if you see a line-up and then come in as other families leave. The photographer only takes a few minutes with each child so it goes fairly quickly. We do not take a formal group photo; the class photo will be a composite group photo portraying each child’s photo.

At this time we will not be able to accommodate photos with siblings who are not registered in the program, the photographer may be able to arrange a time to do a family photoshoot with you on another day.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1633640427162{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]Student Illness

A reminder, if your child is feeling unwell, please keep them home for at least 48 hours or until their symptoms subside. Please use the COVID Health Questionnaire if you are unsure if they should attend school.

If your child develops symptoms while at school, we will give you a call to please pick them up from school and they can return when they have improved. Thank you to those parents who have kept their children home, have had them tested and have called to inform us of their symptoms. COVID tests are not mandatory but it does give you and our staff peace of mind knowing that it isn’t COVID.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1633640634598{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]Monthly Fees & Subsidy

Please make sure you have paid your September fees.
October fees will be due October 1st.

You have 3 options for paying your child’s monthly fees:
Post-dated cheques: Please date all cheques for the 1st of each month, Sept to May and submit to the office.
Cash: Please have your exact cash payment into the office by the 1st day of each month. We do not keep change in the school office and will not make change.
E-transfer: Please have your e-transfer payment in by the 1st day of each month. Please make sure you send your transfer to lcds.direct@gmail.com and be sure to indicate who the payment is for and what the payment is for (Monthly fees, fundraising fee, etc.) in the message section of the e-transfer. A password is not needed as the funds are deposited directly into the school bank account.

If for some reason you need an extension for payment, please let us know and we will provide some options.

If you have applied for subsidy, this is still being worked out with Early Learning and Child Care; we will notify you when we receive your information from their department.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1633640664237{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]Family Photo Fundraiser

Hello Families,

My name is Michell Fung and I have enjoyed getting to know your kids these
last few weeks. Your children will address me by Ms. Michell and feel free to
address me as Ms. Michell as well. Here is some information about myself, I
was born and raised here in Edmonton. My ethnic background is Chinese, and
I can speak some Cantonese. I grew up here on the north side of Edmonton
and now I live on the south side. I live with my husband Neil and my fur
babies Miss Olivia Fuss my cat, my chocolate Lab Emma and my new puppy, a
black Lab, Belle. I have two degrees. My first degree is in Psychology with a
minor in Sociology. My second degree is in Elementary Education. I have
worked with children in various places such as YMCA daycares and taught in a
couple of Head Start school programs.
This will be my 6th year at LCDS in January. One of my hobbies is singing. I
have sung in a mixed community choir called Vocal Alchemy for about 12
years. I can sing both Alto and Soprano. Currently, I am a Soprano 2. Your
children will learn many songs and dances, so when your children randomly
start to sing and dance, they probably learned it from school. As a teacher, I
love working with children and seeing them grow and develop. I love teaching
because every day is always different when working with children and you
never quite know what the day will be like. I hope your children enjoy school
as much as our teaching staff does. We will have lots of fun!
In September, our themes for the first full two weeks are Back to School,
All About Me and Fall. The last week of September we will focus on Safety
and Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day).

The children will learn about the importance of 911 and when to use that
number and what to do during a fire drill at school. It might be a good time
to go over your parent’s phone number or emergency plans in your own home.
We will discuss the topic of Orange Shirt Day through conversations, crafts,
and indigenous stories. We would like the children who attend on
Wednesday and staff to wear an Orange Shirt on Wednesday,
September 29th, 2021. There will be no school on Thursday, September
30 for the new Truth and Reconciliation Day Holiday. We encourage our
families to learn, reflect and participate in the ceremonies and events
throughout the city.

October begins with our focus on Community Helpers. The first week of
October is “Read In Week” We would love for a few parents to read to the
children in their work uniforms (if you have one) and talk about the job they
do in our community. This will help the children learn more about Community
Helpers. Thank you for filling out your occupation forms and I will contact
you soon about reading to our kids. This year we will be asking you to record a
short video of yourself telling the children a little bit about your job and
reading a short story (that I will provide for you). The Video should be about
5 mins or less. More details will be provided soon.

Photo day is with photographer Chelsea Capri (Pixels by Capri) booked for
Friday, October 8, 2021, at 10:00 am for the Morning Class and 10:45
am for the PM Class. Regular classes are cancelled this day, staff will
be using the afternoon for planning and prep work. Please bring your child
for photo day even if you will not be purchasing photos, as we always make a
composite class photo and would like all of the children to be in the photo. No
Money is needed on Picture Day!! A few weeks after photo day, Chelsea will
send a link for everyone to view their child’s photos. We do not schedule retakes as the photographer takes several poses for you to choose from. The
background is usually white for the pictures.

In the middle of October, we will focus on a Fall and Halloween theme. We
focus on the lighter side of Halloween such as harvest, scarecrows and
pumpkins. The children will learn about Fall and we also learn about the parts
of a Pumpkin. We usually do a pumpkin exploration at school where we cut it
open and see what is inside. We will have fun the last week of October where
the children can dress up every day that week and we will have a special
activity planned each day. Please ensure that your child is not wearing a scary
costume or a costume that is hard for them to go to the washroom in; please
leave props such as wands or weapons at home. Thank you!!

If you are going to dress up, please do not dress up in a scary costume. A
reminder it is not mandatory for your child to wear a costume, if your child
does not want to dress up that is okay. In our dramatic play area (the
playhouse), we will be practicing what to do and say when we go out for trick
or treating.

At the beginning of November, we will be working on Music. The children will
enjoy learning and playing different musical instruments and learning the
concepts of loud and soft, fast and slow. Next, we will be learning about
Dinosaurs. The children will learn about plant and meat-eaters and the names
of the different Dinosaurs. We will have our first Gym Day and Dynamyx
Gymnastic day in November (COVID permitting).
At the end of November and the beginning of December, we will learn about
Winter Animals. For the rest of December, we will talk about Christmas and
other celebrations around the world. Our last day before winter break will
be a Pajama and Movie Day, all children will be welcome to attend on that
Friday even it is not their regular day.

We are currently working on our field trip schedules so please read your
monthly newsletters and watch the parent boards to sign up.

Thank you for helping your child make their “All About Me” scrapbook page and
sending it to class for sharing. The children have enjoyed sharing them with
their friends and teachers, and they look fantastic.

I hope I get the chance to meet everyone throughout the school year, feel
free to stop by for a brief chat about your child’s progress after class
anytime. If you have any questions, send me an e-mail at
lcds.teacher@telus.net or contact me on Class Dojo or phone the office to
make an appointment if you want to talk about any concerns. This year we
would love if everyone can join Class Dojo for up-to-date information and
videos and pictures of the children.

Thank You![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”5667″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1635178806688{margin-bottom: 33px !important;}”]
